Wayfair Expands Physical Presence with New Cincinnati Store

The new Cincinnati store is designed to offer a comprehensive shopping experience, featuring furniture, décor, housewares, and appliances.

Online furniture giant Wayfair is significantly expanding its brick-and-mortar footprint with plans for a new 130,000-square-foot store in Cincinnati, Ohio, slated to open in 2027. This move marks a continued strategic shift for the e-commerce leader into physical retail spaces, doubling its presence in Ohio.

A Growing Brick-and-Mortar Strategy

Wayfair, which began as an online-only retailer, is making a significant push into physical stores. The upcoming Cincinnati location, set to open in 2027, will be situated in the Center of Cincinnati retail center. This store will be Wayfair's second planned site in Ohio, following a smaller-format store in Columbus scheduled to open later this year.

Liza Lefkowski, VP of Merchandising and Stores at Wayfair, expressed enthusiasm for the Cincinnati market, citing its strong retail environment and its reach into the broader tri-state region.

The new Cincinnati store is designed to offer a comprehensive shopping experience, featuring furniture, décor, housewares, and appliances. Customers will also have access to curated Wayfair Verified products and complimentary design services. Items will be available for immediate purchase and take-home, with larger pieces eligible for delivery through Wayfair’s logistics network.

Expanding Retail Footprint

The Cincinnati store is part of a larger expansion plan for Wayfair's physical retail presence. The company has already opened stores in Wilmette, Illinois, and Atlanta.

Additional locations are in the pipeline, including:

  • A 70,000-square-foot smaller-format store in Columbus, Ohio, opening later this year.
  • Stores in Denver and Westchester, New York, both slated for openings in 2027.
  • A 94,000-square-foot store at Florida’s Galleria Fort Lauderdale, expected in late 2027.

Strong Financial Performance

This physical expansion is occurring on the heels of a robust first quarter for Wayfair. The company reported $2.9 billion in revenue, marking a 7.4% increase year-over-year.

U.S. net revenue also saw growth, rising by 7.5% to $2.6 billion. As of March 31, Wayfair maintained 21.4 million active customers, a 1.4% increase compared to the previous year.
