Gap Embraces AI Commerce: Seamless Checkout on Google Gemini and Advanced Fit Guidance

Gap Inc. becomes the first major fashion retailer to enable direct checkout within Google Gemini, integrating Bold Metrics’ Agentic Sizing Protocol to solve AI-driven fit challenges.

Gap Inc. is making a significant leap into the future of retail by integrating its brands, including Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta, with Google Gemini. This move allows for shoppability directly through Google's Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), aiming to streamline the online shopping experience.

Additionally, Gap is partnering with Bold Metrics to implement an innovative Agentic Sizing Protocol (ASP), designed to provide personalized fit guidance within AI-driven shopping interactions.

Seamless Shopping with Google Gemini

Gap Inc. is leveraging Google's Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) to enable direct checkout for its brands within emerging AI-native environments. This includes Google's AI Mode and the Gemini app.

This strategic partnership contrasts with OpenAI's approach, which is focusing on app-specific checkouts rather than direct integration within ChatGPT. Google's UCP, however, supports direct checkout, loyalty integration, multi-item carts, and real-time catalog updates, offering a more comprehensive solution for AI commerce.

Revolutionizing Fit Guidance with Agentic Sizing Protocol

In parallel with its Google integration, Gap Inc. is also an early test partner for Bold Metrics' new Agentic Sizing Protocol (ASP). This technology aims to embed personalized fit guidance directly into AI shopping experiences.

Instead of relying on traditional size charts, customers will receive tailored size recommendations through conversational AI. This addresses a critical challenge in online apparel shopping, where AI agents often struggle to accurately advise on sizing.

ASP allows AI agents to ask minimal questions through natural conversation and provide precise size recommendations along with contextual fit information, such as "just right in the chest" or "slightly snug in the waist," empowering shoppers to make confident purchasing decisions.

Bold Metrics is making ASP available as a proprietary protocol for the broader commerce ecosystem, enabling easy integration for AI agents across various platforms.
