Trucking Talk: Rules, Tech, and Real Industry Impact

From language rules to AI hype, trucking’s real challenges lie in enforcement, relationships, and smarter tech—not just headlines or heated debates.

The trucking industry is buzzing with new rules, rising tech, and heated debates—but not everything making noise is making change.

New English language proficiency enforcement has gained attention, but enforcement varies wildly by state. Tennessee and Wyoming are cracking down, while high-volume states like Texas and California remain lenient. The result is confusion more than capacity crunch—for now.

One catalyst for the renewed focus was a tragic Mother’s Day crash involving an Amazon driver. But expert Danielle Chaffin pointed out that most online debate lacks data.

“Regulations matter,” she said, “but the full picture is often more complex.”

Meanwhile, broker transparency continues to dominate headlines. Driver groups demand more visibility into broker pay, but Chaffin said she believes it’s a distraction from more pressing concerns—like safety and tech adoption.

On the tech front, AI is everywhere, but real adoption is slower. Chaffin’s company, Revenova, stands out by integrating transportation management and customer relationship systems in one adaptable platform.

Its AI tool, Artemis, helps automate email processing, but the human touch still rules. Relationships, trust, and secure systems matter more than flashy tools.

What’s most needed?

  • For brokers: simple tools that actually save time.
  • For carriers: fewer distractions and safer roads.

Technology and regulation both matter, but real change still depends on the people behind the wheel.
