Kroger to Invest $391 M in New Kentucky Distribution Hub

Kroger announces a $391 million distribution center in Simpson County, Kentucky, blending automation with 430 new full‑time jobs to strengthen regional logistics.

Kroger is planning a major expansion in Simpson County, Kentucky, with a $391 million investment to build a new full‑line distribution center expected to generate approximately 430 full‑time jobs in the region.

The project was announced by Gov. Andy Beshear and reflects Kroger’s strategy to grow its logistics footprint while integrating scalable, automated operations to support supply chain efficiency.

The facility, slated for Franklin in Simpson County, positions Kroger to better serve its network throughout the southern U.S., leveraging both human labor and technology to enhance throughput.

While the operation will incorporate automation for scalability and operational efficiency, company and local officials emphasize the significant job creation for the local workforce, including competitive‑wage roles.

Local leaders, including Simpson County Judge/Executive Mason Barnes and Franklin Mayor Larry Dixon, highlighted the expected economic boost from this influx of new employment opportunities and investment capital.

The project builds on Kroger’s existing presence in Kentucky, where the company operates nearly 110 stores and recently expanded other facilities, such as a $204 million investment in Bowling Green.
