Delivery Deals Abound

Retailers, Aggregators Inking More Agreements

Albertsons Companies announced a new partnership with Grubhub, marking a significant expansion in its digital strategy.

This collaboration will enable customers to order groceries from 1,800 Albertsons stores across multiple banners, including Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw's, Acme, and Tom Thumb, through the Grubhub app and website. Selected stores will also be part of the Grubhub+ loyalty program.

Albertsons continues to offer same-day delivery through other third-party providers like DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, and Anycart.

Kroger, which plans to merge with Albertsons pending regulatory approval, partners with Instacart and Shipt for third-party delivery.

DoorDash remains active in expanding its grocery presence, including a partnership with Aldi and initiatives to support SNAP/EBT acceptance.

In May, discussions between DoorDash and Deliveroo about a potential acquisition fell through due to a disagreement on valuation.

Hibbett is now offering same- or next-day delivery through a partnership with Walmart’s GoLocal platform and Salesforce Commerce Cloud. This service is available from hundreds of Hibbett and City Gear stores nationwide.

Walmart’s GoLocal platform, launched in 2021, provides nationwide delivery capabilities, leveraging its existing infrastructure including drones and autonomous vehicles.

On the back end of the purchasing chain, Kohl’s is introducing The Return Drop service across more than 1,100 U.S. locations, allowing returns from brands like Carhartt, Hanes, and Levi’s through a partnership with Narvar and Inmar Post-Purchase Solutions. This expansion aims to enhance customer convenience by offering more return options at physical stores.

Despite focusing more on its physical stores, Kohl’s is looking to reverse recent losses, having reported declines in net sales and comparable sales in 2023 and Q1 2024.
